After several instances of being ganked and podded in low sec I decided to educate myself a little better on how the dangers vary and things work in eve. Please correct me If I am wrong in any aspect of this.
In most mmorpg's there is a lvl progression that dictates where you are. With eve you would asume that a noob would progress from 1.0 down to 0.0 in a linear fashion. Build up in Safe space and work your way down. Thinking this way was my first big mistake in the game. From what others are telling me its just not true.
Low sec space 0.4 - 0.1 is actually more dangerous than being in alliance/corp 0.0 controlled space. ALot of pirates and pirate corps hang out in low sec. I assume this is because they cannot compete on an even level in 0.0. So they in turn look for the weaker players in low sec. Kind of like the lvl 60 ganker who hangs in lvl 20 areas and kills them in WOW. When enemy players of equal strength appear they run for it. So a noob running around in these area's really has little chance for survival in an encounter. And its going to happen lol. 3 BS's will take out that shiny new cruiser you worked hard for in a matter of seconds.
I think for alot of us noobs this is where the educational breakdown occurs. We think that low sec is the next step we should take.
For me those low sec encounters were educational and expensive. My new course of action will be to build up in empire and then transition to 0.0 as part of a good corp/alliance. At least then my mates will be there to back me and it won't be 3 30mil sp gankers vs a 1mil sp noob in a cruiser.
just don't do it newer folks... At least not solo... Its just not worth it.
If I missed anything here let me know. I would rather learn it here than in game.

The deathtraps tend to be those reasonably close to empire or dead end systems.
Neither of these "pearls" matter... both are wrong in fact. I just got podded in a "0 Kill" system without even seeing it... I got a blue screen of death during warp (to an instajump point, btw) and killed/podded by 6 different pilots all in bigger ships than my own. Again... this system was empty on local and without any kills in the last hour by the map... so these suggestions -- while no doubt good intentioned -- will not lead to your safety. There are simply a large number of players in this game who want to grief kill new players and the system allows it... no ... it ENCOURAGES it. You have to figure that out early, adjust, and move on...

I could not have said it better Jerol. They are out there. They are hunting you. And sooner or later your gonna get it if you go solo into low sec.
I don't see any sticky's up there that adequately warns new players that if you stray into low sec your cannon fodder for the gankers. If a new player gets ganked loses implants a cruiser and equipment its crushing and discouraging. If you want to keep new players it would be a great idea to educate them on the ganker element. The forums here are often very misleading. One person will tell you if you do x,x and x you should be ok. Thats BS. Your a noob... Your not gonna be ok. You don't have the knowledge or the skills.
Anyway thats a noobs perspective. CCP... You would more than likely keep alot more trial and noob accounts if you had a better education/integration program for noobs.

First of all, carebears are morons. They think they have a right to be anywhere they please.
Second of all, you're all full of schit. My main moneymaking occupation is flying around lowsec in a hauler doing NPC trading. Been doing it for months.
Third of all, those players who need a nanny are not Eve material. Lowsec is an idiot tax that weeds morons and carebears (one and the same) out of the game.
Note that Carebears aren't miners and industrialists, carebears are people that expect CCP to protect them from ganking, instead of learning how to operate in dangerous areas. Lowsec is already boring enough, we dont need to make it more boring by making it even safer.
The level of your intelligence is simply amazing. Wow... what a well thought out post. Omg it explains everything. A 1mil sp player enters 0.4 gets ganked by 6 30mil sp players in battleships and that makes him/her a carebear/moron. Perhaps if you read my post again you will note its about educating new players. I understand your comprehension level may be a bit low but please try and read it. You can use a dictionary ( no one will hold it against you )for the big words.

Wow... I got a lot more responses than I expected.
For the record I was not trying to whine, complain or anything else about my low sec experiances. I was trying to post a warning to other new players about the mindset and risks of low sec.
Regardless what tips/help have been posted here its still a big gample for a new player when crossing that line into low sec. The knowledge and combat skills are no where near on par with experianced players. Knowing what area's of low sec are controlled by what groups is a big advantage. I cross into low sec I roll the dice. Yes... I know I can minimize the risks and these risks will go down as time goes by.
Tony... You may be a Bipolar @ss but you did post some good tips in here. The tip I liked the best was using expendable frigs ( would need a jump clone to bypass the implant loss risk ).
As for me... Im going option 2. Join a good corp/alliance with 0.0 presence and work my way down. Make friends, Learn the ropes from experts and have someone who is watching my back. That for me I think beats the hell out of going the solo route in low sec.
